Backyard Firepits – How to Choose Your Perfect Firepit

It’s little wonder backyard firepits for your home have become so popular over the last few years. Aesthetically appealing, fun, practical and with enough options to fit any taste or budget, firepits are quickly becoming a backyard staple. If you’re considering a backyard firepit, here are some things to think about:

Consider the amount of space you have. Firepits typically range in size from 20” – 25” inches in diameter for small portable models. These usually consist of a fire bowl that can be made of copper or tile. Firepit tables can be from 40”- 45” and are usually square, resembling a low table made of stone or stainless steel.

Whether you consider a smaller portable unit or larger stationary one, remember to keep them away from the exterior walls of your home and be careful if you have a wood deck. Ideally you want your firepit on a non-flammable surface such as stone, concrete or tile.

Types of Fuel
Backyard firepits are designed to use either wood, gas, propane or gel fuel. There are advantages and disadvantages for each, depending upon the type of firepit you choose and how you will be using it. For instance, if you’re planning on using your firepit for grilling, wood imparts a delicious flavor to foods that other fuel types don’t. It’s also less expensive and you won’t have to worry about running out of fuel in the middle of a cookout. If you see your firepit as a gathering place for friends and family, clean burning gas, propane or gel may make more sense.
